When I decided to brand myself as “The Unemployed Alcoholic,” a friend warned me that people would reject me and I would never again find work or be respected.
I took the risk & it has been great. People are engaging, and that engagement is leading to wonderful opportunities and genuine connections.
I think people are engaging in part because they need to reconcile the inherent conflict between an optimistic, smiling face and the negative stigma associated with unemployment & alcoholism.
Then I think they remain engaged because vulnerability and transparency are actually... (wait for it)... refreshing.
People are sick of the “best foot forward,” “sugar coated,” “insincere” introductions that I and many of us have been guilty of in the past.
So cheers to vulnerability, transparency, taking risks and being willing to #EnjoyYourJourney
All the best to you thriving through whatever risks you are taking.
Thanks for letting me share.
